Basford United are preparing to welcome Football League opposition to Greenwich Avenue, for the first time on Tuesday night, as they host League Two neighbours Mansfield Town (7.45 kick off).
In preparation for what the club are hoping will be a bumper crowd at the Avenue, an enthused manager Martin Carruthers spoke to basfordunited.co.uk this week and was clearly relishing the chance to take on full-time opposition, saying:
“Hopefully we will give a really good account of ourselves. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase how far the club has come in such a short space of time and recruit some new supporters, when they see all the good work that is on-going. I will be looking for a solid performance to compliment all the hard work completed pre-season so far.”
“A big thanks to Mansfield for agreeing to play us, it’s great to have the opportunity to test ourselves against quality opposition. We did the same against Lincoln last year, where we managed to beat them 4-3, we want to let teams know what we can do.” added Carruthers.
Basford preliminary squad has already been announced for tomorrow, with the likes of Stuart Hendrie and Jahred Russell still missing but last season’s top scorer Reuben Wiggins-Thomas is likely to resume training this week.
Admission will be £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and the postcode for any first-time visitors to the Avenue is NG6 0LD.
