A thoroughly complete team performance was the perfect response to Fridays disappointment in front of another big home gate as United moved up to 2nd place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

There was little to choose between the sides in the first half. A moment of pure class from Jack Thomas on 38th minute strike was the difference between the teams at half time, via a shot from 25 yards that curled into the top corner.
The second half was a different story with Basford dominating the game. The lead was doubled on 57 minutes, Matt Thornhill showing great skill to set up Coury Grantham who made no mistake from ten yards.
Matt Thornhill scored a deserved third goal after 73 minutes, stroking the ball in after good work from Zayn Hakeem.
Nat Watson made it four from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining after a foul on Kole Lambert.
Kole Lambert made a clinical contribution on the 10 minutes he was on the pitch winning the penalty & scoring not 1 but 2 efforts on 87th minute & 89 minutes. Both goals demonstrated great pace to break free of defenders and a composed finish.
So a big win that United have been promising for a good few league games finally came to fruition & Basford will look to build on this great performance away Sat to highly fancied Scarborough. Of more importance was the elusive 1st clean sheet of the campaign & apart from possibly the Hyde game this was defensively the best showing so far. The return of Dion Miekle had a very positive impact & the talented defender put in an assured performance.
Finally special word for the fans , so far big home gates in comparison to last year and it is massively lifting the group so long may it continue.
