United Defeat Dynamo To Progress In FA Cup

An impressive Basford side progressed to the next round of The FA Cup, with a 3-1 win against Loughborough Dynamo at the NSG on Saturday afternoon.

Manager Martin Carruthers made just one change from the starting XI, which triumphed in the league encounter between the two sides the previous Tuesday, with Blair Anderson given the nod ahead of Tyrelle Shannon on the left flank,

There were also places on the bench for Ryan Oates, Kirmani Smith, Jake Wood, Callum Smith and Jahrel Brown, who all impressed in Basford’s academy side’s Midland Floodlit Cup win at Grimsby on Wednesday night.

Dynamo keeper Joe McCormack was also named to start for the home side, after recovering from a head injury, which saw him having to be replaced midway through the second half on Tuesday evening.

After some good early pressure from Basford, it was Dynamo who then took the lead in the 11th minute, when Saul Deeney’s initial good save was followed up by Carl Sibson.

However, it took just eight minutes for United to equalise, when Ashley Grayson slotted home his first of the season, with the help of a small deflection from the head of a lunging Loughborough defender.

Deeney was then called into action twice more in the final five minutes of the half, making to excellent low saves to ensure the scores remained level at half time.

As the second half progressed, Basford took a stranglehold on the game, with further goals from Jermaine Hollis on 65 minutes and Reuben Wiggins Thomas after 76, sealing their second win against Dynamo inside a week and a home tie against Long Eaton United on Saturday 12th September.

United now look to continue their good form with a Bank Holiday Monday encounter at Greenwich Avenue (31st August – 3pm kick-off), with Rugby Town the visitors for an Evo-Stik League Division One South match. Click here to find out more about the special admission price deals for this game.
