A fabulous team performance by Basford saw 3 big points delivered in a 2-0 away win at Grange Park v title contenders Long Eaton last night in the MRL
In a disciplined performance it was the cutting edge of Basfords fire power that proved the difference between two good teams.
A goal of sublime quality from Stuart Hendrie on the stroke of HT proved the knock out blow. Latching onto a long through ball you would get short odds on anyone holding off the pace of our ex defender David Boafo. Hendrie not only did this, but had the presence of mind to strike on goal early from the angle, that caught out Long Eaton keeper Scott Low for a great strike on 45 min.
Hendrie was always heavily involved in goal number 2 on 56 minutes as he linked well with Ruben Wiggins-Thomas to square for Robson Doolan to net for 2-0 and spark wild celebrations. Long Eaton gave a strong performance but couldn't convert the chances that came their way, although Basfords defending was nothing short of brilliant, but all in all Basford well deserving of a fine victory. It would be foolish to say the title now is a two horse race as still 9 plus games for most of the contenders and no gimme games in the MFL.
With Basford entertaining Walsall Wood Sat then without question it has to be the same level of standard against another excellent team.
Basford would like to thank a good sized following for making the journey last night, it made all the difference to the lads and it would be great for the same vocal support Sat at Greenwich Avenue 3pm v Walsall.
