Important win for Basford and video online

Basford had a good day in relation to the ultimate destination of the MFL Premier division title with a fine 3-0 home win against 3rd placed Lye Town.

Video highlights of the game can now be viewed at the following link

The game got off to a dramatic start with Lye's Bradley Smith receiving a red card after 75 seconds for bringing down Stu Hendrie as he broke clear on goal in Basford's first attack.

Basford were without injured MFL leading goal scorer Rubin Wiggins-Thomas but Tyrelle Shannon proved a more than capable deputy as he opened the scoring on 19 minutes with a shot into the top corner after a fine ball from Ryan Whitehurst.

Lye's ten men were not making life easy for Basford and visiting keeper Damian Stevens pulled off some fine saves from Lee Hendrie and Fabian Smith and Tyrelle Shannon put a fine header inches wide.

Basford finally got the crucial second goal on 68 minutes, Stevens saved well from Shannon, but Stu Hendrie was on hand to net the rebound off the underside of the crossbar.

With Basford seeing an opportunity to improve goal difference against title challengers Coleshill, Lavelle White went desperately close when he hit the post in a one on one. United would not be denied and registered a 3rd on 90 minutes . Courey Grantham completed the scoring when he worked a fine one two with Lee Hendrie to show composure to net emphatically to seal a great win.

The climax to a busy Easter period continues when United travel to local rivals and friends Dunkirk on Bank holiday Monday at Lenton Lane 3:00pm. Both teams need the points so hopefully this will also attract a decent crowd.

Finally a great day in raising funds for Lee Hendrie charity cause Cure Leukemia, and a good crowd of 135 means a further good donation for Lee. With one home game to go this season then hopefully we can get this in excess of £300 . Also many thanks for the additional kind gestures of ground hoppers and viewers yesterday making additional donations a very appreciated gesture.
