United lose at Kirby Muxloe

Basford went down 3-0 away to 6th placed Kirby Muxloe today in the latest MFL premier league as the league top scorers went scoreless.

It’s normally Basford who register goals at crucial points of the game but today it was the home side who did likewise. Despite not playing well 1st period home keeper Butlin was the busier and made 2 very good saves to turn over efforts from Ryan Whitehurst and Stuart Hendrie.

With Saul Deeney an observer for most of the 1st period, Basford were hit by the sucker punch right on half time. A corner bobbled round the box before finally poked home by Sheehan on 45 minutes to give the home side the lead.

2nd period manager Carruthers made 3 bold attacking changes at the half time interval intent on the goals to win the game. Despite a lot of possession United couldn't find a way through, but felt good shouts for a penalty were waved off by the official.

As the game approached the latter stages and leaving gaps at the back United were hit on the counter on 84 minutes. Credit to the home side soaked up a lot of pressure 2nd period but sensed the opportunity to break at pace and despite a fine stop by Deeney, a Kirby forward was on hand to bundle home for 2-0 on 84 minutes, for what was a killer blow.

The home side claimed the game a minute later as Sheehan showed good strength to hold off defenders & round Deeney, before rolling home for his 2nd and the home sides 3rd.

No complaints from the Basford camp Kirby or a strong outfit and adapted the best to the tricky conditions on the day, and well worth the victory.

Basford are back home Weds for the visit of Brocton in what was always a big game, but all of a sudden becomes a very important one. With this in mind Basford need a big vocal support & a 12th man on the evening. KO 7:45pm Greenwich Avenue.
