Community First Team reached the semi-finals of the Notts Senior League Senior Cup with a convincing 4-1 win at Real Community on Saturday. The hosts did well to get the game played given the recent weather but the pitch was proving challenging for all players involved.
Despite dominating large parts of the first half and creating a number of good situations Basford went in at half time level after not making the most of their final passes and crosses. Ian Green and Anthony Bedward both had excellent chances one on one with just the keeper to beat.
It was on the hour that John Beraki broke the deadlock finishing low from 15 yards, Green making it two a minute later. Real got a goal back after a defensive lapse but Basford didn’t panic and played sensibly putting the ball into good areas. Beraki scored his second on 70 minutes before Joe Harrison fired home spectacularly with ten minutes to go rounding off a comfortable away cup victory in the end in what had been a potential banana skin tie.

Under 18 Gold beat Kimberley MW 5-1 at Greenwich Avenue. Injuries ruled out six players and with the goalkeeper not available due to work commitments the side had to call on Joey Mills (striker) to don the gloves. Gold started off brightly and raced into a three goal lead before half time, scorers Henson, Turner and Wilkes.
The pack was shuffled for the second half resulting in a loss of fluidity to play at first, R Mills bending a delicious free-kick from 25 yards to make it 4-0. Then two phases of sloppy defending led to a Kimberley goal which raised the visitor’s spirits and led to a 10 minute spell of Basford being on the back foot. The visitors pushed their luck at times with some heavy tackles leaving the referee no choice but to dismiss two of the visiting players in the last ten minutes. Wilson then skipped past the full back and cut back for Hylton to wrap up the scoring.

Under 16s Saturday drew 3-3 at Nottingham City in a friendly. The game was arranged to keep the momentum going and a chance to play some players who normally haven’t started the game but their commitment this season has been immense.
A slow start from Basford found them 2 -0 down after the first quarter of the game before they pulled a goal back through Kiran Duncan. After the break Notts again scored a quick goal before Basford brought on a more settled side. Relentless pressure from Basford should have had this game out of sight but it took a 30 yarder wonder strike from Milan D Mccrea to get them back in it and with 10 minutes still to play the leveller came from Mikhia Walters, who played several one twos along the touch line before creating space for himself to slot home past the keeper Man of the Match was Dante Lee. Next week the under 16s are away to Southwell City.

After last week’s critical league victory over Gotham the Under 16 Sunday travelled to West Hallam in the cup. Unfortunately they were on the wrong end of a tight three goal affair going down 2-1 with Hunter scoring the lone Basford goal.
