On a blustery day in difficult conditions Basford produced an excellent second half display to come away with three valuable points against last seasons champions.
Basford had the wind in the opening period, but had little to show for their efforts despite some good periods of real quality football. Half chances for Jalland, Wakefield and Shipton were not taken and with some dangerous counter attacks by the opposition George Sansom was only called in to action on one occasion with a good low save.
Basford had it all to do as the gale force wind picked up with heavy rain to boot! After a great through ball by Jalland it was that man Wakefield who burst through and held off the defender to finish with aplomb on 51 minutes.
Despite the horrendous conditions Basford still played the better football and looked dangerous on the counter attack. A Wakefield effort hit the lost and then Shipton's fierce strike was well turned over by the Boston keeper. However, on 78 minutes a near post corner was met well by Gipps and was saved well but Wakefield was on hand to smash home from close range.
A great effort and excellent win.
