Basford United started the new year iwith a workmanlike victory in a game overshadowed by an injury to midfielder Matt Thornhill. There was a 25 minute stoppage in the first half after the former Nottingham Forest player suffered a head injury.

Basford took a 22nd minute lead with a classic counter attack. Saul Deeney saved well from Karl Demidh and sweeping straight upfield, Kieran Wells controlling Rob Duffy’s knock down from Conor Bartles cross and turned to fire past James Martin.

A minute later Kieran Fenton cleared off the line from Ash Hodkinson as Dynamo tried to get back on terms.

Fernando Bell-Toxtle doubled the lead after 37 minutes, after Dynamo keeper offered a belated Christmas Present, before scoring from an acute angle.(Headline Photo)

Seven minutes into the second half Rob Duffy headed in James Reid’s free kick for Basford’s third goal.

Karl Demidh fired home a last minute consolation for Dynamo on a day overshadowed by the injury to Matt.
Released from hospital it looks like the midfielder will make a full recovery but this could have been so much worse and potentially life threatening had it not been for the quick actions of medical teams from Basford United and Loughborough Dynamo.
It says a lot about our NHS that within 10 minutes they were on site by air ambulance to mitigate the risk to Matt.
Yesterdays game ends a mammoth run of 4 fixtures in 9 days and against good opposition this has yielded 10 points out of 12. Now Basford will embark on a run of 8 games in 28 days with both cup competitions as well as consolidation in the league on the agenda.

Sat Basford are back home AT Greenwich Avenue v Leek Town 3pm.
