Time for the real action to begin

4 months ago By Match reporter

The preseason curtain came down yesterday as Basford & Brighouse fought out a good game won by the visitors 1-0.

Whilst the score-lines in preseason don't mean a deal manager Martin Carruthers will take great heart from another really good outing from Basford that had everything bar goals and some of the approach play was of the highest order. Sure chances were not converted but United have a high quality offensive unit who have the pedigree and quality to net the goals when they matter.
The 1st half of yesterdays game was almost constant 1 way traffic as the visiting keeper had nothing short of a brilliant game. With Matt Thornhill denied twice and likewise Kieran Wells twice as well as misses for Liam Hearn/Calum Smith and James Reid then United should have been well clear at the break but went in level at 0-0. The visitors though are a typical Evo-Stik outfit strong organised and an important lesson failure to put these levels of teams away and they will always come back to haunt you that is the nature of a very good Evo-Stik premier/North & South divisions. Sure so there 1st sight of goal brought the only goal of the game via a great finish. With United also missing a penalty then the visitors won the game 0-1.
Now the real stuff begins and the Management team are delighted with a very good preseason. Basford have been very slow starters for the last 5 seasons but the signs look promising that this trend will be eradicated this time round. Without question yesterdays reverse will provide a timely incentive as the new season begins in 6 days.
United can confirm a couple of good signings with left sider Connor Bartle putting pen to paper . Also the young sensation of preseason Celston Patrocinio has penned a deal to join the club so United have all the tools for a good campaign.
