A strong 2nd half display reminiscent to victories over Sheffield FC & Corby Town paved the way for 3 hard earned points.

Certainly not plain sailing as Market Drayton threatened to do a Gresley as really good value for an 11th minute lead , Joe Cuff scoring with a low shot from the edge of the area that caught Saul Deeney wrong footed.

Harry Wakefield and Liam Hearn both shot against the post as Basford responded with Fernando Bell-Toxtle also denied by visiting keeper Matt Dzecki. Basford were also grateful to keeper Saul Deeney who pulled off a flying save from Joe Cuff's free kick

Liam Hearn drew Basford level after 33 minutes, scoring from the penalty spot after Ash Grayson was brought down.

James Reid was the next to rattle the visitors woodwork with a shot against the post from 20 yards.

New Contract awarded Harry Wakefield put Basford ahead two minutes into the second half, scoring from close range after a good move between Liam Hearn and Fernando Bell-Toxtle.

Hearn clinched the win with two goals in four minutes, forcing the ball home in the 74th minute after keeper Matt Dzecki had fumbled James Reid’s corner. Then firing in from close range to take the 1st objective promotion down to a mathematical 8 points needed from 10 games. Whilst Basford want to achieve this quickly and go all out to clinch the title, with the league cup quarter final Tues 27th March v Hednesford and the Notts Senior Cup Final Tues 9th May v Dunkirk, then it promises to be an exciting run in if you are a player or supporter of Basford United FC.
