Earlier in the season the teams had drawn 2-2 so it was all to play for.
It was Long Eaton who made a blistering start and the game was all but over as they raced into a 3-0 lead inside the opening seven minutes. A combination of poor defending, not implementing the game plan and the excellent movement and finishing of MOM Zak Goodson killed the game in the opening minutes.
Basford did manage to rally and after 25 minutes a superb finish from Shipton reduced the deficit. Both Shipton and Wakefield had chances to level the game but it was 1-3 at Half time.
Basford started the second half as they began the first and it was 4-1 after only three minutes. Long Eaton soon notched their fifth as they continued to break forward with ease and it was only missed chances that kept the score down.
Basford did pull one back late on via the hard working Wakefield but it was too little too late.
A well-deserved victory for Long Eaton who were far better on the day.
