The game got off to an explosive start with three goals in the first thirteen minutes.
It took Basford just two minutes to take the lead, home defender Ellis Humble putting through his own net after Connor Bartle’s long throw had caused problems.
Spalding could have levelled soon after, but a golden chance was put wide when most in the ground that it was a certain goal.
Liam Hearn doubled the lead nine minutes later, with a low shot from 25 yards and in the thirteenth minute Gary King put the home side on the scoresheet with a deft lob.
After such an opening, the game settled down although it was a surprise that there were no more goals before half time.
After weathering Spalding pressure during the first part of the second half Basford scored their third goal on 67 minutes.
Hearn was brought down as he moved on to Kieran Well’s pass, but he picked himself
up to confidently score from the spot.
As the game moved into added time Spalding though they had a second goal, which would have made for a tense last few minutes, but the goal was disallowed.
There was still time for Hearn to clip the top of the bar with a shot.
