Graysons wonder strike sets up Basfords FA Trophy progression. (VIDEO NOW ONLINE)

Basford had to work hard to see off a determined Peterborough Sports via 3 2nd half goals.

A second half goal blitz saw Basford United safely through to the next
round of the FA Trophy at a windy and wet Greenwich Avenue.

After a low key first half in which the only moment of excitement a fine save from Sports keeper Aaron Butcher to deny Liam Hearn then both sides went in level at the break.
With Heavy rain to kick off the 2nd period the extra zip on the 3G was really to Basford,s liking as the team registered a far improved 2nd period.

Ash Grayson broke the deadlock with a spectacular strike from 25 yards into the top corner of the visitors net on 58 minutes.

The excellent Matthew Thornhill doubled the lead in the 72nd minute when he converted
a Kieran Wells cross from close range.

Five minutes later it was 3-0 as youngster Harry Wakefield came off the bench to register his 1st senior 1st team goal of the season as he turned home after Courey Grantham’s shot was saved by Aaron Butcher.

Grantham had a golden chance to add to the score in the last minute but
he fired wide with the goal gaping.

All in all Basford will be happy to be in the 2nd qualifying round and a tough away trip to Evo-Stik Premier Stourbridge who last week defeated Alfreton in the Emirates FA Cup. The tie will be played on Sat 28th Oct and Basford will be taking transport for supporters.

All attention now turns to Monday nights local derby against Gresley FC in a game that could either see Basford move clear at the top of the Evo-Stik or Gresley move off the bottom of the Evo-Stik so of huge importance to both sides. Kick off is 7.45pm and the ground is situated next to the Highbury Vale tram stop.

Monday night football v Gresley The First Team entertain Gresley at Greenwich Avenue on Monday night (7.45) knowing a win will put them top of Evo Stik NPL Division One South.
Non League day & Basford reach out for your support for the FA Trophy on Saturday & Gresley in league action Monday. With No Premier or Championship football on Saturday then Basford will hope to attract local fans to these 2 big games.
