Contenders clash as Basford meet Trinity

By Neil McGowan

Basford United take on fellow play-off contenders Gainsborough Trinity at Greenwich Avenue on Saturday (3.0).

Fifth placed Gainsborough occupy the final play play-off position, seven points ahead of Basford, who are eighth.

It is an important game for Basford as they bid to stay in touch with the leading group and they will be aiming to build on last week’s fine win over Buxton.

The club expect to be able to announce a couple of new (?) signings – watch this space!

Gainsborough have strengthened their squad over the last few weeks bringing in goalkeeper Joe Green, on loan from Guiseley and midfielder George Hornshaw, on loan from Scunthorpe United as well as re-signing forward Anthony Wilson from Frickley Athletic and have won their last three games.

When the sides met at Gainsborough in October Trinity triumphed 3-2, a goal from Alex Byrne giving them a 3-0 half time lead. We staged a second half comeback through goals from Matt Thornhill and Nat Watson but it was too little too late.
