Community Friday, Buxton Saturday

By Neil McGowan

There is Friday night football at Greenwich Avenue this week, when Community take on Beeston (7.45), on Saturday the first team play Buxton (3.0).

Basford United Community have scored five goals in each of their last three home games, and will be hoping to continue the sequence.

The sides have met once before this season, in the Notts FA Trophy in January, Beeston running out 3-1 winners. No doubt Community will be looking to set the record straight on Friday.

On Saturday the new Basford managerial team of Liam Hearn and Dom Roma have a tough opening game, when Buxton are the visitors.

Included in the Basford squad will be new signing Brad Gascoigne, a central defender who joins from Barwell. Although only 24, he is an experienced player, having played for Matlock, Nuneaton Borough, Ilkeston, Corby Town and Birmingham City.

The Bucks are in seventh place in the table and are in good form, beating Nantwich on Tuesday and drawing at South Shields last Saturday.

This will be the third meeting between the teams this season, Buxton have won the previous two.

Anthony Wilson’s goal gave Buxton the league points in September, and after Zak Goodson and James Reid had given us a two goal lead in the Integro League Cup here in December, the Bucks came roaring back with two goals from James Handley and one from Brad Grayson giving them a 3-2 win.

Form Guide:
Basford United LWWWDL League position 9th
Buxton WWLWDW League position 7th

Before the game there will be an opportunity for fans to meet Chairman Chris Munroe and discuss club matters. He will be in the Player’s bar (behind the main stand) from 1.30 to 2.30.
This is an invitation for all to attend and discuss the future direction of the club.
