Basford Chairman Chris Munroe provides an honest assessment and talks progression

In a interview with Basford Media the United Chairman has expressed his delight and slight surprise at the start of the current campaign.

Commenting Munroe states “ I am absolutely delighted on all fronts how the 1st team is progressing, and the start to this Evo-Stik South campaign in what is a very tough league it is nothing short of amazing. Whilst plaudits should be tempered at this stage of a long season it’s been a fantastic effort by Management and Playing staff. Manager Martin Carruthers gave me his 10-game points target linked to bonuses at the start of the campaign which I gladly accepted as I really thought it would prove a mountain to achieve 24 league points out of a possible 30 points. For the 1st team to come in at 26 points whilst costing me a lot of money is staggering and brilliant”. Munroe now is gearing himself for a bigger payday with the 20 game & full season targets. Munroe jokes “ it might personally be a Christmas of spam and chips & no holidays when the 20 & full season game targets are delivered but I will be delighted if this is so as we will continue to be right up there”

Onto the club and his own personal aspirations Munroe is enjoying the ride and vowed continued support of Basford Utd FC 1st team “ My own personal aspiration was always to step back at 55 and hand over the reins and ensure a smooth handover with no financial impact to the club".
Lady time is now creeping up but Munroe is delighted to state. “The personal enthusiasm has never been higher and on discussions with my advisors the 1st team will have my continued support & involvement for another 7 years to the age of 60. I do this because I really believe Basford United FC is geared for far greater things and it is important to management/Players both current and prospective to know of stability when planning & building for the future.”
Munroe is aware the brilliant job done by his Management trio Martin Carruthers, Mark Clifford and Rob Duffy and is no doubt long term deals will need to be required to fend off other higher placed clubs. Stating I believe our 3 managers are Basford United through and through and if you cut their arm their blood would be amber !! It is for me to ensure they are motivated to continue the journey, and continuing building the playing side of the club to one capable of at least Conference North in my timeframe. I have never been a hirer or firer and Martin Carruthers is in his 5th year of management and has my utmost respect and support and without question he and Mark supported by Rob have really developed over their time at the club. Stating “ We are not a bad club we try to treat our people with respect & the atmosphere and comradery in the whole club has never been better. Outsiders always view us as splashing the cash but you only have to look at our recent record of 5 promotions since 2011 and so i have viewed this as money well spent to get this club to the level it is now".
Onto next stages of ground developments Munroe is not shying away from this either “ You only have to look at the achievements of Craig Wood & Shaw Lane to take the NPL Premier by storm & progress to the 1st round of the FA Cup and a home draw v Mansfield Town . I believe we are not far away from that level and it’s been a fantastic effort by them and I think attainable by us also”.
Munroe states” it is only a matter of time for that big FA Cup run up to and possibly beyond the 1st round so this plus hopefully league progression we have work to do on the ground. A new 300 seater main stand & additional terracing is very much on the cards. The intention would be the covered top stand behind the top goal will revert to increased terracing and a new stand erected on the far side to get the capacity up to 3000. We would also look at increased covered terracing at the bottom end of the ground that is an attractive area for home supporters when attacking the River Leen side of the ground.
So all in all the prospects look decent but no one at United will take the foot off the peddle as the club strives to continue the onward journey but can do so with stability.
With regard to Basford Community FC Munroe sees positive changes in that section & vows to continue to increase Junior football teams over the next 18 months in line with the CFC,s Football development plan as part of the 4G Application, by increasing between 4-6 new junior teams for the 2018-19 season. Munroe also states “Over the next few weeks we will layout plans for the appointment of an ultimate supremo for the Junior section & further positive developments in that section. Stating “ This area is very important for the CFC and ultimately providing a ready made supply of lads for our Academy. So it has to be right and needs someone to take this forward in the directions linked to Basford United 1st team and showing the professionalism we would expect of any teams wanting to compete under the Basford banner. “
Munroe would like to thank Adam Beazeley & Tracie Witton for the extra efforts in steading the CFC Junior section following the mutual decision to look for a new head of Football.

So all in all a lot of work on the horizon but exciting times at all levels of the club.
