A whirlwind start of 3 goals in 32 minutes paved the way for a fine victory with a tint of revenge v Carlton Town FC.

Highlights can now be viewed here: HERE

Keen to put the lingering memory of that painful night last May firmly behind us when Carlton emphatically beat us in the Notts Senior Cup Final & reignited a little by Carltons publicised launch of their Notts Senior Cup final memorabilia mug article 7 days before this big game. Then perhaps the timing was not really beneficial to Wayne Scott and his group of players, as Martin Carruthers and his Mgt team had the perfect team talk & motivation. No issue from Basford Carlton deserve to recognise a great victory for them back in May .
Basford as to be expected stormed out the blocks and put on a brilliant offense show for a crowd a handful below 300. 3-0 up after 32 minutes credit to Carlton to keep going and make a game of it, before Basford turned the screw 2nd period going on to win 6-2. Strikers Kieran Wells & Liam Hearn netted fine braces. Youngster Fernando Bell-Toxtle & Ash Grayson completed the scoring as United delivered an excellent Christmas present for home fans.
Fernando Bell-Toxtle scored with a shot from the edge of the box after seven minutes, Liam Hearn doubled the lead after 26 minutes netting at the back post, after a James Reid corner. 4 minutes later another Reid corner was expertly headed in by Kieran Wells at the near post. Wells then had a 1 on 1 turned aside by Jack Steggles before Liam Hearn missed point blank. What should have been 5-0 became 3-1 as Kaylum Mitchell’s shot pulled one back for Carlton seven minutes from half time.
The visitors made a good start to the 2nd period and almost made it very interesting with a close effort on 48 minutes. Basford though made the game safe as Ash Grayson headed in the fourth in the 53rd minute and Liam Hearn made it five with twenty minutes to play, finishing off a fine move. Kieran Wells fired home the sixth in the 81st minute.

Jordan Wilson scored Carlton’s second in added time for a final score of 6-2.
A great victory for United making it 22 league games unbeaten and on the right end of other Boxing day results for us that increased the lead advantage to 19 points at the top of Evo-Stik South. Saturdays home game v 2nd placed Corby Town 3pm ko is a really big game that is worthy of the expected big crowd between two very good form teams.
Final point on the crowd almost 100 more that the corresponding fixture on the same day last season so this is a good barometer of how gates are improving, and the public at large are embracing a fantastic non-league success story for this region. Fantastic to see our ex Basford contingent manager Wayne Scott & players Dan Fletcher, Ben Hutchinson, Robbie MacNicholas, Reice Bertram and Aaron Hooton, all great lads and always welcome at Basford and we which Wayne and his team all the best over the remainder of this season.
