The best way to keep up to date with Basford United Football Club

Basford Round off 2017 unbeaten and Rampant (VIDEO NOW ON LINE)

3 weeks ago By Match reporter

An excellent 4-0 win against a good Corby Town rounded off a great year for Basford.

Yesterdays victory was not as wide as the score line suggests, but the timing and quality of the Basford finishing was top draw and the ultimate difference.

Highlights of yesterdays great game can be viewed at the following Link

Level at 40 minutes and a good close game with the young visitors giving an excellent account, 2 finely executed set play goals before the interval totally blew the game open. Once again high quality set play delivery delivered the goods. James Reid moved to 17 assists this season as he swung in 2 fine corner that blew the game opens. Deon Meikle was in the right place to head home at the far post on 40min, & on 43 minutes & Kieran Wells scored from close range at the 2nd attempt from a Reid corner for a HT 2-0 advantage.

2nd period Corby tried hard to get back in the game but got no change from a solid well drilled Basford rear guard that registered a 13th clean sheet of the season in all competitions. Liam Hearn (Headline photo) made it 3-0 ten minutes from time after taking a pass from Kieran Fenton. 84 minutes a fine through ball from Matt Thornhill set up Aidan Austin who made no mistake from ten yards to provide the perfect way to round off an incredible last 6 months of 2017.
So Basford United finished the year in style, stretching a unbeaten league record to 23 games and a lead at the top of 21 points. It really needs pointing out the Evo-Stik South this season is the most competitive we have experienced in our 3 years in this league. You have to earn the right to win games at this level so in this run we have had have very few easy games, and most have been highly contested affairs testimony to a great league.

Its difficult to think that 2018 could be better than 2017 but this group still has far more upside but as always feet will remain firmly on the table and nothing is achieved without hard work, dedication and clear direction.
Finally on behalf of the club & the whole sections of Basford United CFC we would like to wish a very happy New Year to all, with a big emphasis on our Fans who have been brilliant for us this season. The Basford support base is visibly growing game by game & your support has been crucial for us typified by another good gate yesterday .
Next up no rest as the team travel New Years Day to Loughborough Dynamo 3pm ko for the next instalment of our Evo-Stik South campaign.
