Basford host Newcastle, CFC at Newark

By Neil McGowan

On Saturday Basford United host Newcastle Town (3.0) and Community travel to 100% Newark Flowserve (2.0).

Greenwich Avenue is the venue as the First Team return to league action after the midweek cup success. They will be aiming to resume the winning habit after the side’s unbeaten run ended last weekend.

Martin Carruthers said:
“It was great to get straight back to winning ways in the cup tie against Kidsgrove and there were some terrific performances from the players who came in.

“It’s good to be involved in the later stages of cup competitions but the league is our bread and butter and we want to get some league points back on the table and continue our push for promotion.

“Newcastle were very much fancied to be in contention for the play offs but have had a real dip in form! However they have had a boost with a great three points last weekend so we will be expecting a very tough game.”

Dom Roma, Ash Grayson, Deon Meikle and Rob Duffy all return to the squad after sitting out the cup tie and there is a welcome return to the squad for Courey Grantham, now approaching full fitness after his stomach operation. James Reid is out, serving a one match suspension following his sending off at Stamford last week.

When we visited Newcastle in November, two goals from Liam Hearn gave us a 2-1 win.

Community face a stiff task with a trip to Newark Flowserve, whose record in the Notts Senior League Premier Division reads played twenty, won twenty. They are eighteen points clear at the top of the table.
