Basford host Kidsgrove, CFC at AFC Dunkirk

9 months ago By Neil McGowan

The First Team meet Kidsgrove Athletic at Greenwich Avenue on Saturday (3pm). Community are away to AFC Dunkirk (also 3pm).

Looking forward to the visit of Kidsgrove Martin Carruthers said:
“Kidsgrove are a team full of talented players and it is only a matter of time before they will be at the top end of the table challenging for a play off place. They have never given us an easy game and have two or three of the best players in the league so we know what to expect.

"Like all other teams this year they have the carrot of wanting to be the first team to beat us. I might sound like a broken record but we are taking one game at a time and understand that if all eleven players are not pulling their weight then it is inevitable we will drop points! There is no room for any hint of complacency just a pure focus on the task at hand.

"Lewis Carr may be back on Saturday but the others who have been out are still not ready.”

On the League Cup win at Gresley and the performances of the young players in the team Carruthers commented:
“The performance and character of the team on Tuesday was magnificent. Some of the football and goals on a terrible pitch was fantastic to watch. There were so many very good performances and all have done themselves no harm at all.

“It shows the quality we have coming through and clear development pathways. How many teams at this level have given lads first team opportunities to the amount we have over the last two years?

“Added to that and to come back from 2-0 down against a lot of senior players was a top effort. I would like to think that we will be seeing more of our talented young players throughout the remainder of the season.”

Community will look to continue their good form which has seen rise to fifth place when they travel to AFC Dunkirk in the Notts Senior League.
