Basford home to Peterborough Sports, CFC at Ruddington

1 year ago By Neil McGowan

The First Team are at Home to Peterborough Sports on Saturday (3.0), with Community travelling to Ruddington Village (2.0)

The game at Greenwich Avenue will be the third time that Basford and Peterborough Sports have met this season, with us winning an FA Trophy Preliminary Round tie 3-0 at home in October thanks to goals from Ash Grayson, Matt Thornhill and Harry Wakefield.

When the sides met at Peterborough in league action in November, we won 2-1, James Reid and Liam Hearn putting us two ahead before Josh Moreman scored in added time for Sports, who missed a penalty when the game was goalless.

Martin Carruthers commented:
“Peterborough gave us a very tough game last time we met and we got lucky with their early penalty miss and they really tested us!

“Each game is getting tougher and every team now has the incentive to be the first team to beat us which will be a real coup for the first team to do it. I know for sure it will be another very tough game on Saturday and as usual we must be right on our game if we are to keep this great run going.”

Dom Roma, James Reid, Liam Hearn, Rob Duffy and Saul Deeney all return to the squad having missed the midweek Notts Senior Cup win over Kimberley. Matt Thornhill is doubtful pending a fitness test.

Prior to the game the club will be receiving the Evo Stik Northern Premier League Division One South Club of The Month award for December, which will be presented on the pitch to club officials.

Community will be aiming to build on last week’s convincing 5-0 win when they travel to Ruddington Village in the Notts Senior League.

Michael Leslie said:
“We played some fantastic football in the later stages of the game last week and at the same time had to work hard to break down the opponents’ game plan.

“it was good experience and presented the players with a different challenge, we need to maintain this standard this Saturday at Ruddington who have some experienced players.
