Basford bow out of the FA Trophy (VIDEO NOW ON LINE)

11 months ago By Match reporter

Aaron Forde’s 61st minute goal was enough to give Stourbridge victory in a tight FA Trophy tie.

Brief highlights of yesterdays game can be viewed at

It always looked like 1 goal would settle this cup tie and this is how it transpired as higher ranked Stourbridge deservedly progressed to the next stage of the FA Trophy.

Forde finished well with a low shot on 61 minutes from fifteen yards that beat Saul
Deeney at the far post to give the home side the win.

Chances were really at a premium all game & no disgrace as Basford matched a strong Stourbridge side from the Premier Division of Evo-Stik, but found it really difficult to break down a solid home defensive unit.

The home side had chances to put the game to bed after taking the lead as powerhouse centre forward Kyle Perry who was a handful all day, shot over when well placed. Then the striker was denied by a superb save by Deeney from his downward header.

Basford showed more threat with the introduction of Cory Grantham & Aiden Austin & the latter came closest ten minutes from time when Austin hit the top of the bar. James Reid’s long range shot was held by home keeper Matt Gould. Deon Miekle headed across goal far post when he looked better placed to test Gould, but overall the home side were good value for the win.

Deon Miekle was the star Basford performer on the day for Basford.

Basford have a free week now to rest an ever increasing list of injuries that saw the influential Don Roma, Matt Thornhill and Ash Grayson pick up knocks yesterday, so the physio room will be busy before the team is next in league action on Saturday away to Peterborough Sports.
