Basford aim for hat trick as Farsley visit on Saturday

2 months ago By Neil McGowan

Farsley Celtic are the visitors to Greenwich Avenue on Saturday as Basford aim for a third successive win in seven days (3.0).

Martin Carruthers said:
“We are really looking forward to the game and the lads are brimming with confidence after a fantastic Bank holiday weekend.

“The squad will be the same as Monday with both Hearns and Meikle still not available. We will assess any injuries or niggles at training on Thursday night.

“Farsley are a really good side who will be among the favourites for promotion so we anticipate a very difficult game. All the games so far have been a real test and at no point can you relax and take your foot off the gas.

“It was great to get the first victory on board away at Marine and now with that home win the players can be a little more relaxed as some pressure has been taken away now.

“We always knew it would take us five or six games to find our feet and we will only go from strength to strength now.

“The lads are starting to form those partnerships and that was evident in the quality of some of the passing and movement against Grantham. It was outstanding at times and the combination play was there for all to see.

“The way we have started the last two games has been pivotal and that has set us on our way to victory in both games. If we get in front we will be very difficult to beat and we aim to start with that tempo in every game.”

Squad: Preston, Bateman, Storey, Thornhill, Carr, Roma, Bell-Toxtle, Fenton, Tempest, Watson, Reid, Grantham, Thomas, Bartle, Wakefield, Lambert, Lewis.

Farsley made a great start to the season, winning 2-0 at Warrington Town on the opening day, then following up with a 4-1 home win over well fancied South Shields.
Last Monday they suffered their first defeat, 2-1 at home to Hednesford Town.

Basford United Community travel to Bestwood Miners Welfare on Saturday in Division One of the Notts Senior League.

Community will be seeking to maintain their great goal scoring record, which has seen them score eighteen times in their opening three games, all of which were won.
Ground Address: High Main Drive, Park road, Bestwood Village, Nottingham NG6 8YX
