In blustery conditions the wind was a key influence on the quality of the game.
Basford started the game poorly and after just two minutes found themselves a goal down as one simple through ball allowed the Boston winger to race clear and cross to an unmarked number 9 at the far post for an easy finish.
Academy then dominated for large periods of the remaining half and were level on 22 minutes after some great combination play resulted in Daws and Wakefield exchanging passes before Wakefield blasted past the visiting keeper.
Despite Basford dominating possession Boston had two good chances after poor defending but it was poor finishing that kept the scores level. Basford kept pressing but could not find the goal to send them in at the break in the lead.
Basford started the second half much better and some excellent flowing football almost found Daws at the far post but could not quite find the finish. Another flowing move down the left gave Wakefield a glorious opportunity but he blazed over the bar when he just needed to keep low in the corner.
Despite Basford pressure the game was lost five minutes from time after the Boston skipper was left unmarked to head from close range from a corner.
A really disappointing result and performance and the lads will need to bounce back quickly with some very tough games on the horizon
