2nd Half Blitz sees Basford clinch the points v Sheffield (Video Now on line)

9 months ago By Match reporter

Evo Stik Northern Premier League Division One South Basford United 4 Sheffield 0

A fine second half display broke a half time 0-0 deadline as Basford stepped up the gas to register 4 fine 2nd half goal moving a step closer to promotion.

Video of this game can be viewed at the following link https://youtu.be/pjdf8gxSlmk

No indication of what was to come In a closely contested 1st half as chances were at a premium. Ash Grayson went close with a shot that went narrowly made and Liam Hearn's point blank shot was superbly saved by Sheffield keeper Matthew Yates.
.
Basford though were indebted to keeper Saul Deeney who pulled off a fine save from James Gregory’s shot on the stroke of half time to keep the score blank & prevent Basford going in at the break behind.

A sensational start to the 2nd period as Fernando Bell-Toxtle came on as a half time sub and made an instant impact, opening the scoring 15 seconds after the start of the second half with a fierce shot.

Rob Duffy doubled the lead after 62 minutes, heading in after Liam Hearn’s header came back off the bar. Six minutes later Ash Grayson finished a neat move with a deft chip to make it 3-0.

Six minutes from time Deon Miekle finished the scoring with a powerful header from Grayson’s cross and cap a really good 2nd half that blew this game open.
Prior to the half Sheffield had looked as organised as any visiting Greenwich Avenue this campaign and we wish them well over the remainder of the campaign.

No midweek game for Basford before a visit to Gresley next week obviously fighting for their Evo-Stik South survival so no doubt they will put up a battle royal.

This week all eyes turn to the new Basford Football Educational trials scheduled for Monday 19th/20th Feb 12-3pm at Greenwich Avenue. In conjunction with Nottingham College uptake is expected to be high for this excellent program but still time to apply for a top quality educational football program aimed at 16-18 year olds.
