Basford round off the season in disappointing style but what a brilliant season

2 years ago By Match reporter

Despite the immense disappointment that debut in the Evo-Stik concluded in disappointing fashion last night, it should not detract from a fine season.

Basford were effectively swept away by a Coalville Town storm inside the 1st 23 minutes, not out of keeping with the stormy weather that greeted the kick off, as the home side powered to a 3-0 advantage. With no way back against a very good team the remainder for United was not pleasant for United Mgt /Officials and supporters but credit to the lads they kept going against a rampant Coalville Town outfit, who Basford wish all the best in securing promotion after failing the last few seasons.
Basford Chairman Chris Munroe has nothing but praise for Martin Carruthers & his management team of Mark Clifford & Mark Clarke as well as all players on what has been a fabulous debut season in step 4. “ We set a target of a top 10 finish at the start of this season so this achievement has been brilliant and totally unexpected. Maybe last night was a bridge too far but with all that will be going on at the club this summer then making the changes for another promotion would have been challenging. We have enough on our plate with adapting the ground for our state of the art 3G, that's not to say we wouldn't have adapted if needed too but it was,nt to be . “

With Basford having the consolation of two cup finals for our Under 18 Football Academy this Thursday 7pm v Football League academy Walsall FC in the Midland Cup at Greenwich Avenue, followed by the Nottinghamshire Senior cup final on Tues May 10th v Clipstone FC at Mansfield Town, then what a great conclusion to this wonderful season. Munroe is hopeful that the supporters who have been tremendous for us this season will put these two dates in the diary, and make it a celebration for club. “ Our club has been so appreciative of our growing band of support who have resulted in average home gates this season increasing almost 80% on those experienced last year in the Midland Football League. We are very conscious of providing a very good cost effective experience for the local supporter, and hopefully they will not let the disappointment of last night cloud what this club has as objectives over the coming seasons and what achieved this campaign. Make no bones our journey is gathering momentum and we feel well positioned to deliver a bright future for Nottinghamshire in the semi professional football game.
