Vets go 7 points clear!

10 months ago By Neil McGowan

Basford Vets went seven points clear at the top of the East Midlands Vets Premier League with an emphatic 9-0 win over Sherwood Colliery.

Back on grass the Vets used the perfect playing conditions to register their seventh win on the bounce.

The returning Martin Carruthers stole the show with a first half hat-trick but the initial part of the game saw goals from Damian Rennick and the surprise contribution from Neil Wilkinson with a well taken goal from 20 yards easily beating the stranded Sherwood goal keeper.

Constant pressure saw further goals from Adam Beazley, Richard Ranshaw and three from the impressive Carruthers as he finished off his third with a neatly taken penalty.

The second half was much of the same for Basford but the ongoing pressure only brought two further goals for Rennick and Mark Brookes. The score could have been more but for four goals struck off for off side decisions.

Basford again utilised the strength of their squad with returning players, Steve Bull, Paul Curwood and Adam Beazley all contributing to a high scoring victory.

No further league games for the Vets this side of Xmas but they will need to pull in games asap when the All England fixtures come out in the next few days.
