Trips to Drayton and Magdala on Saturday

10 months ago By Neil McGowan

Basford United First Team and Community both travel on Saturday, to Market Drayton Town and Magdala Amateurs respectively.

The First Team will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the Evo Stik NPL season to twenty games and their run of successive league away wins to ten when they travel to Market Drayton Town on Saturday (3pm).

Martin Carruthers commented:
“Lewis Carr came through the Clifton game unscathed and will in the squad along with James Reid who was missing on Tuesday.

“I was really pleased with the character shown by the players to respond after going 0-2 down and then 2-3 immediately at the start of the second half. Great spirit and determination and a never say die attitude.”

On the team’s recent goal scoring spree which has seen twenty goals in the last four league and cup games Carruthers said:
“It’s been an amazing return of twenty goals and we are really pleased to have Liam Hearn, Kieran Wells, Aidan Austin and Harry Wakefield all contributing with vital goals that will also help boost their confidence.

“We now have a clutch of strikers we know can hit the back of the net and this will be key to us maintaining our push for promotion.

"We also have Rob Duffy who has not been firing in front of goal (that will come) but his overall contribution to the team has been immense. His hold up and link up play has enabled Hearnsy/Wellsy to develop and improve their game and assists in so many of our goals. He is so valuable to us and he will score plenty of goals for us during the remainder of the season.

“Credit must also go the whole team for the amount of chances we have been creating for the strikers and we are really starting to gel as an attacking force.”

Adult admission: £9.

In form Community go to Magdala Amateurs in the Notts Senior League Premier Division, kick off 2pm.

Community have won their last four league games, scoring fifteen goals in the process and conceding just two.
