Many in the ground felt the opening 15 minutes were the best seen at Greenwich Avenue this season. Basford came out of the blocks fast and an undermanned Kidsgrove side simply had no answer, as Basford were 3-0 up on 13 minutes and effectively the game over.

Liam Hearn continued his rich scoring vein with a brace & opened the scoring on 55 seconds. Fair to say a Kidsgrove defensive mix-up was instrumental in the goal, but Hearn still showed great awareness to net from 40 yards and with his wrong foot for a fine opener.
Fernando Bell-Toxtle who is getting better with each game was in the right place to fire home on 9 minutes after Ash Grayson cross was glanced on by Rob Duffy.
4 minutes later James Reid found the back of the net with a shot from
25 yards & really that was that at 3-0.
Hearn scored again on 32 minutes, cutting in from the right and beating
3 defenders before bulging the net with a shot.
Hearn thought he had his 2nd Hat trick in consecutive weeks as he had the ball in the net again on the stroke of half time, but was denied by an offside call.
Second half Kieran Wells made it 2 goals in a week for him as he made it 5 with a close range finish 17 minutes from time. That was the end of the scoring as Basford sealed another very important win. Credit to a banged up Kidsgrove a much better 2nd period and they never threw the towel in.
A great victory to cap a fine week for the club as we reached last 5 nominations out of 1000 in the Club Mirror Sports awards & a 1st ever Evo-Stik South team of the month award testimony to a 100% November.
Martin Carruthers is adamant no complacency will be allowed to creep into the group and with a very tough schedule in December in what is a key period of the season.
Liam Hearn is now in 2nd place in the Evo-Stik South goalscoring charts with 18 one behind Stocksbridge PS hitman Joe Lumsden who is on 19. The two premier strikers will go head to head on the 23rd Dec when United will travel to Stocksbridge so it could be a case of which striker will be top goalscorer at Christmas. !!
